Mathematics Research Assignment for Students of 2E1 & 2E2

You are required to research on any one of the following topics and present your findings either as a Powerpoint slideshow or as a word document. The topics are

1. Biography of a Mathematician
Choose one of the mathematicians listed below and find out about his life, his discoveries/inventions and how it has impacted us in our life and our learning of Mathematics.

The mathematicians include:
· Fibonacci
· Blaise Pascal
· Pythagoras
· Pierre de Fermat

2. Do a comparison of the Christian calendar (the calendar which we commonly use) with any of the following types of calendar:
· Chinese Calendar
· Indian Calendar
· Islamic Calendar


3. Choose one of the following measurements listed below and research on the different types of equipment used from ancient to modern times.
· Liquids
· Distances
· Weights


Instructions:
Your Powerpoint slideshow should contain between 4 – 6 slides, and your word document should note exceed 2 pages long (using font 12 with double line spacing).

When submitting your work bear in mind the following grading criteria:

Relevance of information – 15 marks
Clear Analysis of Information – 10 marks
Creativity in presentation – 5 marks

Please make sure you acknowledge the sources of your information at the end of your project (in addition to the page allowance as stated above).
